Matrimony describes the relationship between husband and wife and matrimonial consent
describes the free willingness of a man and a woman to enter into marriage.
The Right Person
Who we enter into matrimony with, is one of the most important decisions we make in our
lives. It is not only marrying the right person but also being the right partner. Marriage is
about becoming a team and spending the rest of your lives together.
The Art of Matrimony
A good marriage is not something that you find, it is something that has to be created. It
requires time and effort. You have to work at it and you have to cultivate it. Marriage does
not guarantee that you will be together forever, it is only paper. It takes love, respect, trust,
understanding, friendship and faith in your relationship to make it last.
Beautiful Box
Some people enter into matrimony believing that marriage is a beautiful box full of all the
things they longed for, companionship, romance, love, friendship. At the start, the box is
empty. You have to put something in it before you can take anything out. A couple must
learn the art and form the habit of giving, loving, praising, serving, of keeping the box full. If
you take out more than you put in, the box will be empty.
Commitment
Commitment to each other is an important factor in building a strong marriage which means putting
your partner's needs above your own. Each partner's actions need to communicate that he or she
matters. A great marriage does not happen by luck or by accident. It is the result of a consistent
investment of time, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, affection, mutual respect and a rock-solid
commitment between husband and wife.
Trust & Truth
Trust and truth are two pillars of a
strong matrimonial relationship.
If you do not trust your
partner, you will not speak the truth and if you do not speak the truth your partner will not
trust you. Each partner's actions must be trustworthy. You simply cannot have a healthy
matrimonial relationship without trust. There has to be an open and honest communication
between both partners. "Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy. Every healthy relationship is built
on the foundation of honesty and trust" (Dave Willis) "Ultimately the bond of all
companionship whether in marriage or friendship is conversation" (Oscar Wilde).
Forgiveness
The Keys to forgiveness are a heartfelt apology, a willingness to make amends, a desire to
rebuild trust and patience. Forgiveness in matrimony is ultimately a choice only you can
make.
Respect
Matrimony at its core is all about respect for the other person and respect goes both ways.
In marriage, disagreements are inevitable but disrespect is optional.
Matrimony & Struggles
When you face a struggle in matrimony, the struggle will become a story one day. It will
either be a story about why you divorced or a story about how you worked together to build
a stronger marriage. You get to decide which story becomes true. The couples that are
meant to be are the ones who go through everything that is designed to tear them apart
and come out even stronger. "Your marriage will not be defined by the size of your struggles
but by the size of your commitment to overcome the struggles together" (Dave Willis).
